Ah So Yummy is all about downright healthy and delicious homemade recipes, mostly whole food and plant based. I cook my dishes with herbs and spices to enhance their flavor without adding unnecessary fat, sugar or calories. With the use of herbs and spices I add color, aroma and flavor to my dishes waking up the sleepiest taste buds.
I was a health major in college and followed a very healthy diet and lifestyle for years until life happened and I got too busy, tired and stressed to care. I lived on junk food, processed food and sweets until aging caught up with me and I started feeling the effects of my unhealthy eating habits. The same was true for my sister, my partner in crime. Our outing always ended with an unhealthy and high-calorie meal or dessert and after gaining a few pounds the following day, we would always talk about how we were going to watch our diet, not for health reasons but for weight. But, unfortunately we always fell back into our old habits without fail. It wasn’t until our health problems started to surface that we changed course from “living to eat” to “eating to live”. Eating healthier hasn’t rid us of our chronic health problems, but it has definitely prevented further damage to our bodies.
My sister and I cook our food with whole food and plant-based ingredients and avoid all animal, animal-based products, eggs, dairy, processed foods and sugar. We base our diet around unprocessed or minimally processed veggies, fruits, whole grains, beans, legumes, nuts and seeds. Well, the best part of this new eating style is that we both lost weight without even restricting or counting calories and we feel a lot healthier.
If you associate clean eating with bland and boring food like we used to, you’ll be amazed when you learn how spices and herbs can elevate the flavors of your food and how you can turn a simple ingredient into something ah so yummy with a little experimentation and imagination.
